In Australian law, most employees have the right to reasonable notice before dismissal, and dismissals must be for a fair reason, however these rights are not universally upheld. At common law, everyone has the right to reasonable notice before either side terminates a contract. The longer that people work for an employer, the more notice becomes reasonable, reflecting the concept of mutual respect. For example, in Quinn v Jack Chia (Australia) Mr Quinn had been initially hired on a contract with a one-month notice, but had worked for years, taking on senior responsibilities, and making personal sacrifices for his employer. The court held he was entitled to 12 months, not one month as the contract had said, given his length of service, seniority and dedication over the years. A longer period of notice could also be expressly or impliedly agreed. For instance, in Walker v Citigroup Global Markets Australia Pty Ltd an investment banker was promised during negotiations that if he took a new position he would get a guarantee bonus after a year's work, and a higher job title, but before the job had begun the employer terminated and argued that Walker was due only one month's notice according to the standard termination clause. The Federal Court held that despite the termination clause, the promise of a bonus indicated the contract was meant to run for at least one year, so Walker was awarded damages for a year, plus damages for loss of opportunity to remain in employment longer.

As opposed to the member states, the relation of EU law and international law is debated, particularly relating to the European Convention on Human Rights and the United Nations. All individual EU member states are party to both organisations through international treaties. The Treaty on European Union article 6(2) required the EU to accede to the ECHR, but would "not affect the Union's competences as defined in the Treaties". This was thought necessary before the Treaty of Lisbon to ensure that the EU gave adequate protection to human rights, overseen by the external European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg. However, in Opinion 2/13, after a request by the commission to review their plan to accede, the Court of Justice (in Luxembourg) produced five main reasons why it felt that the accession agreement as it stood was incompatible with the treaties. === Human exposure === Human exposure varies across the globe and depends on factors such as smoking rates, fuel types in cooking, and pollution controls on power plants, industrial processes, and vehicles. Developed countries with stricter air and water pollution controls, cleaner sources of cooking (that is, gas and electricity versus coal or biofuels), and prohibitions of public smoking tend to have lower levels of PAH exposure, while developing and undeveloped countries tend to have higher levels. === Domestic === Syria: Syria condemned the Israeli strikes on Syria and asserted their right to self-defense. The foreign ministry said that Israel's "flagrant assault, which forms part of a deliberate policy pursued by the Israeli entity to inflame tensions, spread chaos, and undermine security and stability in Syria, constitutes a blatant violation of the United Nations Charter and international humanitarian law". The head of security in Suwayda, Suleiman Abdul Baqi, declared "that some of the Druze in Israel who misled Hikmat al-Hijri into believing he would be granted a "state" have no influence in Washington" and "the American administration supports President Ahmed al-Sharaa and a unified Syrian state, and is against any separatist project or separatist groups, and does not support any Syrian component except through sending humanitarian aid, and supports the security and stability of Syria". There are many types of suture, but broadly they can be categorized as absorbable vs non-absorbable and synthetic vs natural. Absorbable sutures have the added benefit of not requiring removal and are often preferred in children for this reason. Staples are less time-consuming and more cost effective than suture but have a risk of worse scarring if left in place for too long. Adhesive glue and sutures have comparable cosmetic outcomes for minor lacerations <5 cm in adults and children.
