This is a working overview of ACTH analog, written for readers who want more than a one-paragraph summary but less than a textbook.
This page was last updated on 2026-05-23 and is reviewed periodically as new material appears.
The compound is registered in Russia as a pharmaceutical product, most commonly formulated as a nasal solution, and has been used in that setting since the 1990s. Outside that jurisdiction it is generally handled as a research chemical rather than an approved medicine. Regulatory status therefore differs sharply between countries, and material sold internationally may not correspond to the Russian pharmaceutical formulation. Documentation with commercial samples is typically limited to a certificate of analysis covering purity and identity, not clinical status or local legal classification.
Semax is a synthetic heptapeptide with the sequence Met-Glu-His-Phe-Pro-Gly-Pro. It corresponds to the ACTH(4-7) fragment extended at the C-terminus by a Pro-Gly-Pro tripeptide, an addition intended to slow enzymatic breakdown. The molecular formula is C37H51N9O10S and the molecular mass is approximately 814 daltons. In the literature it is often described as an ACTH(4-10) analog, although that label reflects a naming convention as much as a precise structural relationship. The compound was developed in Russia and remains most closely associated with that research tradition.
Laboratory descriptions of the material are consistent across suppliers. It appears as a white to off-white lyophilized powder that dissolves readily in water and in polar organic solvents such as dimethyl sulfoxide. Aqueous solutions are clear and colorless at low concentrations. Because the peptide contains methionine, oxidation at the sulfur atom is a recognized degradation pathway, and handling notes usually call for protected, desiccated storage. Reported purity for research-grade lots is generally above 95 percent as measured by reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography.
The parent fragment ACTH(4-10) carries the sequence Met-Glu-His-Phe-Arg-Trp-Gly. Semax replaces the arginine and tryptophan positions with a proline-glycine-proline tail, giving Met-Glu-His-Phe-Pro-Gly-Pro. That change removes residues associated with adrenal stimulation, so the peptide does not drive cortisol release the way full ACTH does. This distinction shapes how the compound is grouped in the literature, where it sits with neuropeptides and peptide neuromodulators rather than with corticosteroids.
Regulatory status varies sharply by country. Semax is registered for medical use in Russia, where it appears in formularies as a nasal solution, and it also holds registration in a small number of neighbouring states. It has no approval from the United States Food and Drug Administration or the European Medicines Agency, and it is not a scheduled controlled substance in most jurisdictions. Elsewhere it circulates mainly as laboratory material, so purity documentation comes from suppliers rather than from a national pharmacopoeia.

Later generations of the molecule include an N-acetylated form and an amidated form, both marketed online alongside the parent peptide. These variants differ in terminal chemistry and stability, and they are frequently discussed in the same breath even though they have not been compared in controlled trials. Supply outside formal healthcare systems comes largely from laboratories that synthesize peptides to order. Purity and identity of these materials vary widely, and no single body oversees the international trade.
Semax is a synthetic heptapeptide developed in the Soviet Union during the 1980s by researchers at the Institute of Molecular Genetics in Moscow. It was designed as a truncated analog of adrenocorticotropic hormone, retaining only the fragment spanning residues four through ten. Investigators sought a peptide that would preserve the cognitive effects associated with ACTH while eliminating the hormonal stimulation of the adrenal cortex. The compound entered clinical use in Russia during the following decade.
Sulfur deposits in Sicily were the dominant source for more than a century. By the late 18th century, about 2,000 tonnes per year of sulfur were imported into Marseille, France, for the production of sulfuric acid for use in the Leblanc process. In industrializing Britain, with the repeal of tariffs on salt in 1824, demand for sulfur from Sicily surged. The increasing British control and exploitation of the mining, refining, and transportation of sulfur, coupled with the failure of this lucrative export to transform Sicily's backward and impoverished economy, led to the Sulfur Crisis of 1840, when King Ferdinand II gave a monopoly of the sulfur industry to a French firm, violating an earlier 1816 trade agreement with Britain. A peaceful solution was eventually negotiated by France. In 1867, elemental sulfur was discovered in underground deposits in Louisiana and Texas. The highly successful Frasch process was developed to extract this resource, and the United States replaced Sicily as the main producer of sulfur worldwide in the early 20th century. Since the advent of the contact process, the majority of sulfur is used to make sulfuric acid for a wide range of uses, particularly fertilizer. In recent times, the main source of sulfur has become petroleum and natural gas. This is due to the requirement to remove sulfur from fuels in order to prevent acid rain, and has resulted in a surplus of sulfur.
Bin Laden selected these men because they were educated, could speak English, and had experience living in the West. New recruits were routinely screened for special skills and al-Qaeda leaders consequently discovered that Hani Hanjour already had a commercial pilot's license. Hanjour arrived in San Diego on December 8, 2000, joining al-Hazmi. They soon left for Arizona, where Hanjour took refresher training. Marwan al-Shehhi arrived at the end of May 2000, while Atta arrived on June 3, 2000, and Jarrah arrived on June 27, 2000. Bin al-Shibh applied several times for a visa to the United States, but as a Yemeni, he was rejected out of concerns he would overstay his visa. Bin al-Shibh stayed in Hamburg, providing coordination between Atta and Mohammed. The three Hamburg cell members all took pilot training in South Florida at Huffman Aviation. In the spring of 2001, the secondary hijackers began arriving in the United States. In July 2001, Atta met with bin al-Shibh in Spain, where they coordinated details of the plot, including final target selection. Bin al-Shibh passed along bin Laden's wish for the attacks to be carried out as soon as possible. Some of the hijackers received passports from corrupt Saudi officials who were family members or used fraudulent passports to gain entry.
In case of cGMP fine chemicals, process validation is also required. This consists of the three elements: process design, process qualification and continued process verification. Once a new chemical process has been introduced successfully on an industrial scale, process optimization is called upon to improve the economics. As a rule of thumb, it should be attempted to reduce the costs of goods sold (COGS) by 10-20%, every time the yearly production quantity has doubled. The task extends from fine tuning the currently used synthetic method all the way to the search for an entirely different second generation process. Specific provisions include the increase of overall yield, the reduction of the number of steps, raw material cost, solvent, catalyst, enzyme consumption, environmental impact.
=== Stem cells === Mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) and muscle-derived stem cells (MDSC) have been used in urology to treat urinary incontinence. Fibroblasts in a collagen carrier were injected into the submucosa of the urethra, and myoblasts were injected into the urethral sphincter. The procedure was reported as being successful in most cases. Injection of MSCs may lead to engrafting and forming multinucleated myotubes, which helps to regeneration after injury. In theory, use of stem cells removes the problems of reabsorption and migration of the bulking material. There is similar research which aims to regenerate muscles and repair tissues by cell therapy to treat injuries of the external anal sphincter.

== Early life == Ali Larter was born in Cherry Hill, New Jersey to Margaret Walker, a realtor, and Danforth Larter, a trucking executive. She attended Carusi Middle School and went to Cherry Hill High School West, but she did not finish her senior year of high school due to being too busy modeling. Her mother accompanied her everywhere until she turned 18. Her parents have since moved to Allentown, Pennsylvania. Larter said she was a tomboy until she turned 13.
The level's designers initially created the traps in Ravenholm using "simple geometric shapes", before turning to concept artists to transform the ideas into more detailed and realistic concepts. It is generally believed by fans and critics that Ravenholm was partially inspired by a level of the 1998 video game Thief: The Dark Project known as the “Sealed Section", as Marc Laidlaw, who wrote the plot of Half-Life 2, was personally a fan of the game. In the level, the player traverses through a quarter of a large city which has become infested by the undead, which stands in contrast to the technologically advanced neighbourhoods surrounding it. However, unlike the Thief level, the player has not yet encountered overt horror tropes in Half-Life 2 prior to arriving at Ravenholm.
The reaction between p-toluenesulfonamide (1) and ethyl chloroformate (2) in the presence of base gives tosylurethane [5577-13-9] (3). Heating that intermediate with azepane (4) leads to the displacement of the ethoxy group and the formation of tolazemide (5). Azepane proper would lead to [13078-23-4].
Her testimony contributed to UN Security Council sanctions being imposed on two Houthi security officials in February 2021. It was later alleged that she admitted some of her testimony was untrue, and she had embellished claims at the request of Saudi officials.
In 2011, the FDA approved a phase I trial that used telemonitoring, also known as remote patient monitoring, to collect biometric data in patients' homes and transmit it electronically to the trial database. This technology provides many more data points and is far more convenient for patients, because they have fewer visits to trial sites. As noted below, decentralized clinical trials are those that do not require patients' physical presence at a site, and instead rely largely on digital health data collection, digital informed consent processes, and so on.

Enzyme structures may also contain allosteric sites where the binding of a small molecule causes a conformational change that increases or decreases activity. A small number of RNA-based biological catalysts called ribozymes exist, which again can act alone or in complex with proteins. The most common of these is the ribosome which is a complex of protein and catalytic RNA components.
Most members of the MMP family are organized into three basic, distinctive, and well-conserved domains based on structural considerations: an amino-terminal propeptide; a catalytic domain; and a hemopexin-like domain at the carboxy-terminal. The propeptide consists of approximately 80–90 amino acids containing a cysteine residue, which interacts with the catalytic zinc atom via its side chain thiol group. A highly conserved sequence (. . .PRCGXPD. . .) is present in the propeptide. Removal of the propeptide by proteolysis results in zymogen activation, as all members of the MMP family are produced in a latent form. The catalytic domain contains two zinc ions and at least one calcium ion coordinated to various residues. One of the two zinc ions is present in the active site and is involved in the catalytic processes of the MMPs. The second zinc ion (also known as structural zinc) and the calcium ion are present in the catalytic domain approximately 12 Å away from the catalytic zinc. The catalytic zinc ion is essential for the proteolytic activity of MMPs; the three histidine residues that coordinate with the catalytic zinc are conserved among all the MMPs. Little is known about the roles of the second zinc ion and the calcium ion within the catalytic domain, but the MMPs are shown to possess high affinities for structural zinc and calcium ions.
Dicyanamide (abbreviated as dca when a ligand) is an anion with the formula C2N−3. It contains two cyanide groups bound to a central nitrogen anion. Dicyanamide is formed by decomposition of 2-cyanoguanidine. Dicyanamide is used extensively as a counterion of organic and inorganic salts, as it is a "chemically inert, hydrophobic anion" and pseudohalide. It is also as a reactant for the synthesis of various covalent organic structures. Dicyanamide has a very low proton affinity, less than 310 ± 3 kcal·mol−1. Its gas-phase conjugate acid is iminomethylidenecyanamide HN=C=N−C≡N, which is predicted to be slightly more stable than the symmetric tautomer dicyanimide N≡C−NH−C≡N. Dicyanamide was used as an anionic component in an organic superconductor that was, when reported in 1990, a superconductor with the highest transition temperature in its structural class. Dean Kenyon examined the role of this chemical in reactions that can produce peptides, and a co-worker examined dicyanamide's possible role in primordial biogenesis.
Leonian Gyoku Rou (レオン星人ギョク・ロウ, Reon Seijin Gyoku Rō): Ban's leonine predecessor, from Planet Leon, who was meant to become Deka Red on Earth, but was badly injured while protecting Jasmine and Hoji from an Alienizer called Terry X, which seemingly forced Rou to retire. In reality, he was tasked by Numa-O to go underground and prepare an elite team called the Fire Squad (ファイヤースクワッド, Faiyā Sukuwaddo). In the present, after being forced out of hiding when Terry X resurfaces, Rou recruits Ban in recognition of his fiery passion and drive for crime-fighting. Gyoku Rou is voiced by Daisuke Namikawa (浪川 大輔, Namikawa Daisuke).
== Arrival in Spain == In Madrid, Alexander von Humboldt pursued the idea of a scientific expedition to Spanish America, despite the usual restrictions on foreign travel in Spanish colonies. Through the assistance of Don Mariano Luis de Urquijo, Spain’s First Secretary of State, whom Humboldt had previously met in London, he was introduced to King Charles IV of Spain. The king granted Humboldt and his companion, Aimé Bonpland, official permission to travel throughout Spanish America for scientific purposes. The royal passports granted Humboldt and Bonpland extensive rights, including the use of scientific instruments, freedom of movement, and the authority to conduct research throughout Spanish territories. Colonial officials were instructed to assist them as needed. Such privileges were exceptional, given that Spain had historically allowed very few foreign scientific missions in its colonies, due to longstanding policies of restricting access to outsiders for reasons of state security, economic monopoly, and religious protection. The level of trust and freedom granted to Humboldt was unprecedented for a non-Spaniard. Humboldt recognized that Spain’s primary interest in granting permission was related to his expertise in mineralogy and the potential for discovering new mineral resources, rather than purely scientific advancement.

It is registered as a pharmaceutical product in Russia, where it is typically supplied as a nasal solution. In most other countries it is not an approved drug and is traded as a research chemical instead. Approval status depends entirely on the jurisdiction involved.
Most published work uses intranasal administration, matching the route of the registered Russian formulation. Some animal experiments use intravenous or intraperitoneal injection. The route matters because the intact peptide is cleared rapidly from blood, so exposure differs between methods.
A purity value describes the share of the powder accounted for by the target peptide, usually by high-performance liquid chromatography. It does not confirm that the sequence is correct, which requires mass spectrometry or amino acid analysis. Purity and identity are separate checks.
Registered medical products are most often 0.1% nasal drops. Research suppliers ship lyophilized powder, usually in milligram quantities, which is dissolved before use. The active peptide is the same in both cases; presentation and excipients differ.
